Staying at the Greenwich Hotel feels more like spending the night at a friend’s house than in a hotel — if your friend happened to be Robert De Niro. The actor grew up nearby, and spent his youth padding the streets of Little Italy and Greenwich Village, before opening this timeless Tribeca classic (together with hoteliers Ira Drukier and Richard Born, and De Niro’s son Raphael) in 2008. There is nothing ostentatious or stuffy about the hotel — instead it has an understatedly elegant, stylish New York townhouse feel. Service is warm and personal, with faded photographs of De Niro and artworks by his father, Robert De Niro Sr, adorning the hallways. You might even spot a celebrity or two: Beyoncé, Margot Robbie and Michelle Obama have all been spotted here. De Niro is a regular too, of course.
